Abstract

The audio recordings of Al-Quran recitation in Brunei Darussalam are one of the most significant manifestations of its care for studying the Al-Quran and memorizing it, as well as learning its theories. This recording was executed for the first time in this nation’s history as a clear indication of the development of the care of the Book of Allah SWT, particularly during the reign of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muízzaddin Waddaulah. This study aims to identify reading errors in terms of tajwid that occured in this recording which related to Lahn Jali and Lahn Khafi and Akhfa’. Regarding this study, it does not mean neither to lower the position of this recording nor reduces its value, rather it is intended to honor individuals who contributed to this recording. In this study, the researcher relied on a descriptive analytical and inductive approach by studying the informations related to the study in order to identify and analyze issues regarding reading errors in terms of tajwid that have been identified. The researcher also applied a critical theory approach when analyzing this recording by listening to some parts of the readings that were selected at random in order to identify reading errors that were inaccurate in terms of tajwid and to correct them. In addition, the researcher used statistical methods to figure out the percentage of the errors. According to the study’s findings, there are 393 reading errors in terms of tajwid that the researcher has been discovered through some parts of the readings which had been listened by the researcher on this recording, which the majority of the errors were related to the Makhraj huruf and the charachteristics, while the least numbers were related to Waqaf and Ibtida’. With this finding, it proves the necessity of this recording to be improved and corrected, also to further studied by the experts in order to ensure that listeners are not affected by it.
