Abstract

This academic exercise is centered on the understanding of zikir nation in the perspective of the Qur’an and Sunnah. It also understanding the efforts done by Brunei Government and challenges faced by the respective departments in accomplishing this goal. This academic exercise consisted of four parts. In the first part, the researcher explains the meaning of nation, its principle, needs and objectives towards human life. And in the second part, the researcher discusses the meaning of zikir, its reality and benefits as stated in Al-Qur’an and As-Sunnah Annabawiyyah. The third part discusses Brunei Darussalam as an Islamic country, its features, opinions on zikir nations, people tasked with the responsibilities for the realization of zikir nation and several factors that helped its accomplishment. In the final part, the researcher highlights several efforts made by the Brunei government and the challenges they faced in strengthening the vision of zikir nation. The researcher used old and contemporary books as source of reference, and the research was further supported by data obtained from field/site studies via surveys and interviews with several governmental departments in the country (Brunei Darussalam). The researcher also conducted analysis on the data collected in relation to this academic exercise and elaborated on several suggestion/recommendations put forward by members of the Bruneian community on how to make zikir nation a reality. One of the most important and practice it in their daily life.
