Abstract

In this research, the researcher will discuss about the collection and distribution of zakat in Brunei Darussalam. The importance of this research stems from its relevance to knowing how to collect zakat and its expenditure in Islam, especially in the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. The need for society in Brunei to know this subject, as it relates to one of the five pillars of Islam. And because this research will fill a gap in the Arab Islamic Library in Brunei Darussalam in terms of organizing Zakat matters. The method that the researcher followed in this research is through reference to the Noble Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet, jurisprudence books and other references related to the topic, through desk research and the Internet. The research includes three chapters. The first chapter explains the concept of zakat in Islam, the evidence from the Qur’an, the Prophet’s hadith, and consensus, the wisdom of the legality of zakat, as well as the benefits of zakat. The second chapter discusses the reality of collecting zakat and its disbursement in Islamic law. And it includes the types of zakat and their amounts. The third chapter talks about the collection of zakat and its spending, especially in the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. The research reached results, the most prominent of which is that it helps the Muslim feel compassion and sympathy towards the poor and needy. Paying the need for the poor and enriching them. It strengthens Muslims and raises their status, as jihad for the sake of God is one of the sources of zakat.
