Methods of Prayer According to The Syafi’ie Sect and Its Application Among Secondary School Students in Brunei Darussalam

Abstract

Prayer is one of the pillars of Islam and also a pillar of the religion which should be emphasized to all muslim, and it has a high rank in this noble religion of Islam. Muslims are obliged to perform it as taught by the Prophet Muhammad Sallahu Alaihi Wasallam because prayers will not be valid without following the prescribed methods. In Brunei Darussalam, Islam is the official religion of the country guided by Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah and based on the Syafi’ie method in most acts of worship, including prayer itself. This study will discuss about the correct ways of praying according to the Syafi'ie method, which will explain about the things that must be done during prayer, as well as the matter of sunnah and makruh by bringing evidence from the Qur'an and As- Sunnah. The methodology of this study is through books of fiqh, hadith, and dictionaries obtained from the library of Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, survey questions through “Google Form” and materials obtained from websites related to this topic. In this study will also focus on high school students to see to what extent they use the method of Syafi'ie school in performing their prayers. The study is divided into three sections. The first section of the researcher explains about the understanding of the way of prayer in terms of language and terminology, the words related to the sentence of prayer, the proposition of the Shari'ah, the law of maintaining the movement of prayer. The second section will explain about the methods of prayer based on the Syafi’ie method. And the third section will describe about the survey questions, the results of the study and also suggestions.
