dc.description.abstract | The problem with the study is that polygamy is legitimate in Islam and is permitted in
Brunei Darussalam as long as the conditions relating to it are met, by Shariah Law or Kanun
Brunei Law . Nevertheless, there is a possibility that some members of the Brunei
community do not accept and reject polygamy, and others do. This refusal and acceptance
of polygamy have reasons to know. The aim of this research is therefore to ascertain the
extent to which the Brunei community's acceptance and rejection of polygamy. To reach
this goal, the researcher uses the descriptive curriculum where the researcher returns to the
library and the entenreite to obtain the books of jurisprudence and others to learn the truth
of pluralism in Islamic jurisprudence. Reference is also made to the laws on polygamy in
Brunei Darussalam, including the Islamic Family Law No. 217. In addition, the researcher
will conduct a field study on the Brunei community by distributing the questionnaire to
about 144 people at random. The researcher also relies on the analytical curriculum where
the researcher does. The most important findings of the researchers are: one of the reasons
Bruneian society accepts polygamy, first: polygamy reduces unethical activities. Second:
Reduce the proportion of older virgins. Third: The first wife could not have children.
Moreover, the reasons for the rejection of polygamy are, first: polygamy can lead to chaos
in the household. Second: The practice of polygamy in couples will be detrimental to
children. Third: Wives will be jealous of each other. Fourth: Fear of injustice in terms of
external and internal maintenance. Fifth: Fear of emotional injustice. Sixth: Fear of
injustice in the part of spending the night with the wife. seventh: Polygamy will bring
