Scholars are those who have deep and extensive knowledge. They also have a very important status in the Quran. Some etymologies in the Quran are synonymous with the etymology of the scholars, such as al-‘Alimun, Ulu al-Albab and Ulu al-‘Ilm. When the scholars began spreading Islam in the Malay world, their lives have been changed from practicing animism to practicing Islam. Other than spreading Islam, the scholars also played an important role in the Malay world. Through a qualitative and historical analysis, this study aims to identify the contribution of the scholars by focusing on the mainstream that has been brought by them from the Middle East to the Malay world and on to Brunei Darussalam. As a result, it has made an impact to the Bruneian society up to this day.en_US
