Abstract

This study was made to find out the contributions of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien III in Brunei Darussalam, as for Al-Marhum Sultan known as the Architect of Modern Brunei, which made His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah gave the name of bridge connecting between Brunei Muara District and Temburong District with the name of the late Sultan, as the late Sultan is a great symbol of modernity for Brunei Darussalam. Among the most important results obtained by the late was the planning and construction of the Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque, so he got his title of Architect of Modern Brunei. Researcher use historical descriptive methods to achieve the objectives of this study. This study contains three chapters, the first chapter, the researcher will introduce the personality of the late Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien III in terms of his birth, education, personality, and inauguration of throne. While in the second chapter, the researcher will explain about Islamic administration and the history of Islamic administration that has been implemented by the Prophet Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam, Khulafa Rashidin, the reign of Bani Umayyah and part of the history of Islamic administration in Brunei. In the last chapter, the researcher will write about his contributions in Islamic administration during the British Residence and the biggest plan of his reign, namely the Brunei State Constitution 1959 and also his efforts in defending in making Brunei self-governing. Therefore, in conclusion, this study mentions some of his contributions and the efforts of the late Sultan in the development of the country and its progress, in accordance with him as the Sultan and Head of State of Brunei Darussalam.
