Abstract

To be a successful leader, we need to ensure that the leadership has excellent values in shaping a society. It is this leader who will determine the journey of his people in reaching the point of success. This study discusses matters related to the topic of the teachings and examples in the leadership of the Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz, which is divided into 3 chapters. The first chapter discusses about Umar bin Abdul Aziz in which it will describe the Caliph Umar from his birth, before and after becoming a caliph and the characteristics of his leadership. While in the second chapter, the discussant will define the meaning of leadership in terms of language and terminology, as well as differences of opinion from some Western and Islamic figures on the concept of leadership. The discussant also presented some terms that describe the concept of leadership and leaders in the Qur'an and also the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad Sallahu Alaihi Wassallam. This chapter discusses about the leadership of Umar bin Abdul Aziz and how Caliph Umar solved the problems faced in his leadership. In the last chapter, the discussant makes lessons and examples from the leadership of Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz that can be used as an example and practiced in society now and in the future. Therefore, the conclusion of this study describes the lessons from the leadership of Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz who led his people justly and wisely. So, with the existence of this thesis, In Shaa Allah it will be able to provide benefits to readers to increase knowledge about the Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz and also about the concept of leadership that can be used as a lesson to a better society.
