Abstract
This research aims to determine the effect of Jawi writing for some loan words which pervaded from Arabic into Malay Language for Arabic speakers in Brunei Darussalam. The respondents were only focused on first-year Arabic medium students at the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, in total of 141 respondents. The researcher used historical methodology to analyze the history of Jawi and Arabic writing, as well as to find out the similarities and differences between those writings. The researcher have also distributed questionnaires to respondents. This questionnaire contains some Arabic words which have been used in the Malay language. Respondents are required to write the words given in Jawi script. The results of the analysis were studied using SPSS software. This study has produced some important findings among them; lack of ability from respondents to write given words into Jawi writing accurately. According to the perceptions of the researchers, this is due to the influence of pronunciation of the word in the Malay language. Researcher also found that there are students who are influenced by the spelling of the word in Arabic. Finally, the researcher has come to a conclusion and shared some suggestions.
