Abstract
The role of female preachers in preaching towards Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala has been evident since Islam first appeared in the time Rasullullah Salla Allah Alayh Wa Sallam. Saidatuna Khadijah, Aisyah and other ummahatul mukminat- RadiaAllah Anhunna- have carried out their duties as preachers in the early stages of Islamic preaching. Their role as preachers have been recorded by historians in their published books. This study will discuss the efforts, activities and contributions made by the female preachers in Brunei Darussalam. This study aims to reveal the significant of female preachers in Brunei Darussalam by stating their efforts to improve Islamic preaching methods in Brunei and the challenges faced by them. The objective of this study is to identify those problems and thus to solve them. The methods used by this study includes library sources and field studies through interviews with female preachers who give religious lectures on various television programmes of Brunei’s Radio and Television (RTB) channels, administratives officers who work within religious institutions such as the department under Brunei Darussalam’s Ministry of Religious Affairs. For example, Pusat Da‘wah Islamiah and other organizations under Ministry of Religious and Affairs as well as other higher educational institutions. This study has found that the female preachers have a big role that complements the role of male preachers. Women’s efforts in preaching also represents a large portion of preaching activities carried out in the country. This study also shows there are problems and challenges faced by the female preachers that must be resolves. With this study, it is hoped that concerned government agencies will take actions in order to bring up more female preachers specifically in the aspect of education from an educational standpoint or tarbiyah da‘awiyah. In the mean time the methods used by those preachers nowadays should be reviewed especially the da‘wah toward the youth. focusing on the methods used or how preachers are delivered (especially towards the youth), that the approach is in line with the changes and needs of today’s community.
