Abstract
This discussion aims to examine a hadith narrator, Baqiah bin al-Walid, and to further discover on the matn of his hadith especially the ones in Sunan Abu Daud and at-Tarmizi. He is one of the well-known narrators in Kutub as-Sittah and renowned amongst other hadith scholars especially in Tadlis at-Taswiah. Accordingly, the researcher of this discussion have made an attempt to translate his background, the scholars’ opinion on the status of his Jarah and Ta’dil, the sequence of his hadith in Sunan Abu Daud and at-Tarmizi, the methodology or procedure to examine the authenticity of his hadith, and to examine the source of his sanad with some clarification regarding the status of his hadith. The researcher has applied an inductive method to collect legitimate sources of information from Kutub as-Sittah. Furthermore, the researcher has applied an analytical method to analyse and later comment on the information found in accordance to the principle of Jarah and Ta’dil. The researcher, in utmost truthfulness and dedication, has cited the words of hadith scholars in order to meet with the present objectives especially during the presentation of the issues discussed. Based on the research, Baqiah bin al-Walid has narrated 05 hadith (the total numbers of hadith narrated by Baqiah bin al Walid in Sunan Abu Daud and at-Tarmizi). The 43 Hadith contained in Sunan Abu Daud can be further divided as follows:81 Sahih Hadith, 8 Maqtu’ Hadith with a Sahih Sanad, 2 Hadith categorized as Sahih Li-Ghairih, 8 Hadith categorized under Mauquf with a Sahih Sanad, 6 Hadith categorized under Hasan Hadith, 8 Hadith under Hasan Li-Ghairih, and 83 Hadith under the category of a Dhaif Sanad. Meanwhile, 7 Hadith from Sunan at-Tarmizi can be divided as follows: 3 Sahih Hadith, 2 Hadith under the category of Hasan and 8 Hadith under the category of Dhaif.
