The aim of this study is to describe and evaluate the prescribed Arabic Literature subject in Arabic upper secondary schools in Brunei Darussalam, identify teaching methods used in the syllabus of prescribed literature and highlight the difficulties faced by students and teachers for the academic year of 2020 alongside proposing solutions to improve the syllabus in Arabic schools in general and upper secondary Arabic schools in particular in Brunei Darussalam. The researcher used the descriptive evaluative method, where the study reviews the importance of literature and its role in teaching foreign languages in general, and the functions of Arabic literature and its teaching methods in Brunei Darussalam secondary schools for students who study Arabic as a second language in particular. This study also discusses the difficulties of students and teachers in Arabic Literature and the criteria that will help in selecting literature texts which will be adopted in the syllabus. All these are down to the practical part where the study objectives will be measured with a measurement tool that consists of two survey forms: one form for teachers and one for students. Each of them consists of 60 items divided into 6 main parts, namely: curriculum goals, content assessment, curricular and co-curricular activities, evaluation, teacher and student. The study concludes a set of findings and recommendations, in addition to the most important proposed solutions that would help in improving the curriculum of Arabic Literature in Arabic upper secondary schools in Brunei Darussalam.en_US
