Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to analyze the efficiency of zakah management for al-gharimin recipients in Brunei Darussalam. This research aims at investigating how effective is the management of al- Gharimin category especially on defining its eligible al-Gharimin recipients. It also aims to study the factors that contribute to the effectiveness of al-Gharimin applications, selection process and its distributions and also understand the challenges that Brunei Islamic Religious Council faced in managing al-Gharimin in Brunei Darussalam. The findings in this paper show that zakah management in Brunei Darussalam specifically al Gharimin category is progressing to be better as public are more literate on defining al-Gharimin itself and Brunei Islamic Religious Council is also made some improvements in terms of their management as well as identifying the factors that give impact to its’ efficiency of zakah management. The study consists of three chapters. Chapter one, introduction of the Zakah. The second chapter explains about the al-Gharimin and the third chapter, the author explains the survey of the role of Brunei Islamic Religious Council in dealing with the al-Gharimins’ problems. Literature review was used in this research and setting up interviews with Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB). The author hopes that this research will give a clear explanation and it could bring benefits to us all while always remembering the blessings by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.
