dc.description.abstractThe aim of this study is to uncover the reality of religious and Arabic schools especially their roles in Fatani and Brunei, in term of its importance, establishment, development and roles toward the Muslim community. In order to achieve the objective of the study, researcher was using historical, descriptive and deductive methodologies in order to gain information as well as conducting field works by interviewing several informants related to this study. The significant result from this study is the religious and Arabic schools have undoubtedly played significant roles toward the Islamic community and civilization. The schools had become the pillars in educating religious education in various levels. In addition, they had given positive impacts on the community such as producing scholars and Jurists as well as writing several religious books, besides becoming the reason for the establishment of Islamic publication and libraries. Those schools also helpe strengthen the Islamic identity of the Muslim in a country of “Negara Zikir” (Nation’s dhizkr) and a country which uphold the Philosophy of Melayu Islam Beraja. However, there were challenges facing the educators especially in Fatani due to the political situations and economy constraint leading to the weakening of the roles of the schools and their impact on the Muslim community.en_US
