Abstract

The purpose of this dissertation is to identify the position of the hadith mentioned in the book titled ‘Himpunan Khutbah Jumaat’ in Brunei Darussalam for the year 2004 published by the Department of Mosque Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Brunei Darussalam. It is the first book to collect the text of the Friday sermon delivered by khatib during the Friday prayers in year 2004. This book is used as a reference for readers especially Muslims. This book contains one hundred hadiths to be analyzed by researcher. The researcher found that the hadith mentioned in it had no sanad (the chain of narration) and had no rawi (narrator) except in some places. This study will examine the hadith by analyzing each of the hadith to determine the position of the hadith. Researcher use two methods in this study, the first one is the method of inductive which is to be used for searching the hadiths mentioned in the book, and later to analyze those hadiths. Second method is the method of criticism which is used to identify the position of the hadiths from the opinions and views of the traditional scholars, or the contemporary scholars, and by studying the sanad of the hadiths for those hadiths that are not found from the views of any scholar. Finally, the study found that most of the narrated hadiths are authentic and partly da’if (weak) and few of them are da’if jiddan (very weak). The researcher also suggested - the result of a study made on the hadiths in the book - to replace the da’if or rejected hadith with the better hadith, as has been amended and corrected by the researcher during the study for some of the lafaz (text) hadith. Therefore, it match and consistent with the lafaz found in the primary sources.
