Abstract

Islam in Brunei Darussalam has been rapidly growing especially during the reign of the late Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. Their eras are considered as the golden ages of Islam in Brunei Darussalam which elevates the Malay Islamic Monarchy philosophy as the fundamental of the government. Therefore, this study was conducted to uncover the history of Islamic calling into Brunei Darussalam. Among the continuous efforts to strengthen the message of Islam are the constructions of mosques across the country, the establishments of religious and arabic schools as well as the bodies of the various missionary. The aim of this study is to tell the community of Brunei about the history of Islam and its development in Brunei Darussalam especially during the reign of the late Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien and Sultan Bolkiah Haji Hassanal. The methodology of this study is by gathering information via readings and researches. The study found that nation leaders’ persistence and determination to uphold the Islamic teachings in all possible aspects is the catalyst for the development of the propagation of Islam in Brunei Darussalam.
