Abstract
The existence of witchcraft is true. The Islamic perspective of Syariah al-Islamiyyah also mentions and explains about the verdicts of witchcraft, kinds of witchcraft and the evidence for the existence of witchcraft and all that is related to it. Witchcraft has been proven its existence since the early days and not excluded its existence among Bruneians. It is proven by the existence of evidences to the events and incidents happened in the past by history. The beliefs of Bruneians nowadays concerning witchcraft are related to the beliefs and understandings of their ancestors to it. There is increasing number of problems relating to witchcraft among Bruneians nowadays and have built up some vacillations and concerns. This research aims to identify the verdicts of witchcraft in Islamic perspective of Syariah al-Islamiyyah and the beliefs on which Bruneians stand on. The researcher follows different types of approach in the completion of this research. The researcher uses the inductive approach by limiting in gaining information from old and new books from the libraries and also from the internet, and from this, the researcher has gained much information relating to witchcraft. The researcher also uses the field approach by conducting interviews with some of the officers in some ministries in Brunei Darussalam and also with some of the Bruneians for the purpose of collecting important information relating to witchcraft and also uses the analytical approach and self-observation to reach the objective of evaluating the beliefs on which Bruneians stand on witchcraft. Besides that, the researcher also uses the questionnaire approach to reach the objective in evaluating the beliefs of Bruneians to witchcraft. The finding of this study shows that problems relating to witchcraft could be prevented by conducting discussions and explanations about witchcraft and also by establishing a special government foundations and organizations in handling anything related to witchcraft and also by implementing laws relating to witchcraft. And hopefully this research will improve and solve the arising problems of witchcraft among Bruneians and therefore improve the thinking and beliefs of Bruneians regarding witchcraft. And with Allah’s blessing, hopefully we will gain much knowledge from this research and it would help us to overcome any arising problems relating to the issue of witchcraft.
