Abstract

This study aims to explore international relations in Islam, particularly regarding Prophet Muhammad's letters to kings and leader. The first aspect of this study addresses the definition of International Relations, its historical development, basic rules, and foundations of International Relations in Islam. The second aspect discusses the diplomatic relations when Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) was conducting dawah, diplomatic notes in Islam, and some of the significant forms of the Islamic nation's diplomatic connections in His era. Meanwhile, the third aspect focuses on the Prophet's letters to the kings and leaders, whereas the fourth aspect addresses an analytical study on the letters. This study uses analytical method and produces significant findings, most notably that the messenger or da'i (preacher) needs to know the language of the target audience to ensure the discussions go well without the need for a translator. the messenger represents the Prophet in any matter related to conducting diplomatic relations, which also aims to conduct dawah to Islam. Apart from dawah to convert to Islam and abandoning the worship of religious statues and idols, the messenger also plays a role in preparing diplomatic notes and follows Allah's command. Looking at the Prophet's personality, He is a trustworthy person who is ready to conduct dawa, aided through revelations and mu'jizat (miracles). This study concludes with a set of key recommendations, most notably that a country must work to develop its diplomatic state system and achieve its goals. If the system becomes stronger, the possibilities of strengthening the country's influence will also increase in the regional and international state systems. Eventually, the country will be able to uphold its existence in the global political arena.
