Abstract

This research begins with description of wedding celebrations in Islamic jurisprudence and the culture or customs of Malay community in Brunei Darussalam. They are steps and stages that have to be followed by the Malay couple before they get married. It was found the similarities of customs as well as contradictions with wedding law of Islam. Those contradictions were found to be done by ancestors before. The rationale of this paper is to point out which of the stages in the culture were found to be in contradiction with the Islamic law. In sha Allah, this will make the Malay community of Brunei aware of these contradictions, in order to avoid them in the future.
