Abstract

Child maintenance is one of the main obligations that must be fulfilled by a father or his representative. The main objective of this study is to describe the meaning of alimony and the law of child maintenance in Islamic jurisprudence and the Brunei Qanun. To achieve the objective, this study uses the library research method, that is by referring to primary and secondary sources, such as jurisprudence books and so on. In this research, we also use the method of references of jurists and compare their opinions. In addition, this study also contains laws related to alimony provided in Brunei Darussalam. At the end of this study, it also shows alimony cases in the Brunei Syariah Court under the Islamic Family Laws of Brunei, chapter 217.
