Abstract
The focus of this study lies in the fact that Muslims in the present era raised the adopted child like their own children from their upbringing, and fulfilling their needs of housing, food, and clothing, while adhering to the provisions and limits of the Shariah. However, there were some differences between the provisions of Islamic law and the fatwa at the position of the Islamic Religious Committee (MUIS) in Singapore in the adoption. What is the dispute between them? And what leads to it? Therefore, this research aims to explain the rule of adoption in Islamic law in detail, with knowledge of the issues leading to adoption in the present time, and the field of conflict between Islamic law and the fatwa in Singapore regarding adoption. As a result, this research relies on two approaches: Firstly: Descriptive approach, and secondly: Comparative approach. One of the most important findings of this research is that adoption is forbidden in Islamic law, therefore Islam brought an alternative to it. Meanwhile the Fatwa Committee of the Islamic Religious Council in Singapore has removed all the obstacles that prevent Muslim families from practicing adoption, as stated in the fatwa that fits the context of the country of Singapore.
